When you’re expecting a baby it’s such a special time!
You deserve extra pampering, and there are some one-off things you may like to do (or need to do) – after all it’s not something that will be repeated that often!
I’m so happy to be able to recommend to you these amazing local people and their services that I found brilliant during pregnancy, when my baby was a teeny newborn squidge, and beyond.
Acupuncture – Sian Morris – Holistic Acupuncture Sian says “Acupressure is the firm, constant application of pressure to specific points on the body and can be used to reduce pain in labour. Not only did it aid my own positive experience in labour, it also helped my partner feel confident supporting me.”
Baby massage – Beccy Norman – Reflex Spinal Health Beccy says “Baby massage is hugely popular at the moment, and with good reason. Touch is an important way to promote secure parent-child attachment, a method which is used all over the world. Infant massage is an amazing way to express love, promote attachment and there is plenty of research to show how it can help alleviate baby ailments too.”

Breastfeeding support (tongue tie specialist) - Natures Mothers – This not for profit Community Interest Company takes on the role of educating pregnant women, new mothers and health care students in all issues surrounding breastfeeding, in the Berkshire area. They promote breastfeeding through antenatal workshops and encourage mothers through the early days with telephone counselling and one to one sessions.
Chiropractic and osteopath – Reflex Spinal Health - Due to gravitational and hormonal changes in the body during pregnancy this can often result in back pain and pelvic pain. The wonderful practitioners here will use gentle techniques to alleviate your pain that are appropriate for your stage of pregnancy.
Newborn & pregnancy photography – Hannah McClune – On the hottest day of 2015, Hannah’s superb photography skills somehow captured the gorgeous glow of my 8 months’ pregnant-ness rather than the sweaty mess I felt at the time! She came back for a newborn shoot and we treasure the beautiful images she created, lasting memories of a time that can otherwise be a blur! My website uses some of Hannah’s photos. Hannah now mainly focusses on weddings, so you may also want to check out…
Newborn & pregnancy photography – Sez Photography. As a mum of two, Sez understands how difficult and time-consuming pregnancy and new babies are. As such, she makes sure her sessions are relaxed, fun and memorable. She also offers newborn photography for babies up to 8 weeks, so that mums & dads don’t feel rushed or pressured. Sez specialises in documentary-style photography, photographing you & your baby the way you truly are and capturing those first perfect moments.
Personal Training (and Yoga) – Lucy Howlett – Lift Personal Training - Lucy specialises in pregnancy and post-natal exercise. So whether you’re feeling concerned about getting into shape or a little anxious that you’ve never trained before, now is the time to set some fitness goals – and let Lucy help you in achieving them! She has a fun, motivational and approachable style that can help you meet your own individual training goals.
Reflexology for pregnancy – Kassi Milne-Smith – Kassi runs baby massage classes now too, but is also a very experienced reflexologist, and I had some fabulously beneficial sessions with her when I was pregnant.
Retreat – Retreat Yourself – the single best thing I did when pregnant (other than learn hypnobirthing!) was book myself onto the most relaxing and empowering weekend retreat with these gorgeous ladies. Yummy food, peaceful surrounds, nature walks, and being looked after on a level that every pregnant mama deserves. Read my retreat write-up here.
(Very gentle) sleep consultants - Blissful Bambino - Faye and Sophie work with families in Berkshire and Oxfordshire, providing one to one tailored support in the comfort of your own home, day and night. Faye says “we both feel very passionately that sleep coaching does not have to be a distressing process and that goals can be achieved by following a gentle and nurturing path. This is much easier to achieve when the parents are provided with expert support that is hands-on and there for them day and night.” One to keep bookmarked just in case you need this support in the future (BB work with families with babies and young children from 6 months in age).
Yoga – Tessa Yoga – did you know you’re entitled to paid time off to attend pregnancy classes including yoga? Tessa has a whole load of experience and qualifications, and offers yoga classes for pregnant mums, new mums and babies, and even older children.
